To be a temporary employee,
sounds like a person without a tie to a company, without
a future, without a chance for advancement. I can
attest, it isn't so. I spent four years working
temporary assignments, collecting that weekly paycheck.
Four years building my knowledge of administrative
software, making new friends, learning about different
office cultures.
When I started "temping", it was just to tide me over
until I found a "real" job. But then, I started to like
changing companies when assignments ended-no time to
develop a boring routine. I felt comfortable knowing
that I could leave an assignment if the company wasn't
the right fit. When asked about my profession, I proudly
responded that I was a professional temporary.
I developed major confidence in my abilities as an
administrative employee. I knew that I would always have
work because I was good at what I did and the temporary
placements kept me actively working.
I currently work for a Fortune 100 company, I came here
as a temporary. The company tried to hire me for over a
year and a half. I didn't want to become an employee. I
liked temping. I was comfortable being committed to the
temp agency instead of the major corporation. Finally,
my boss made it too lucrative for me not to get hired,
and I left temping.
I did tell my boss, however, if things don't work out or
the company downsizes and I have to go, no problem. I
can always temp.
Thanks Select Staffing.
